Delicious Local Cuisine



Rice(米)
Joetsu is famous for its rice making. Its abundant nature, fresh air and clean water allow for the production of delicious rice.

Sake(酒)
The area's sake is known all over Japan for its delicious taste. The crystal clear nature of snow thawed water coupled with the high skill of local sake artisans make for the highest grade of Japanese sake.



Asaichi Morning Market(朝市)
On Gangidori street neighborhood people gather together and open a morning market. The foodstuffs range from season to season. It is very popular with the local people.


Kachidokimeshi(かちどき飯)
Uesugi Kenshin, when he went to war, would praise his winning warriors by feeding them this dish. Made with the same ingredients and cooking techniques as were used 400 years ago.


Wine(ワイン)
Iwanohara Vinyard's history dates back to 1890 when its founder Kawakami Zenbei converted his home garden into a vineyard. One can participate in wine-tasting and tours of the cultural asset ‘Ishikura’ Åistone warhouseÅj.
