
Jokoji Temple
A designated National Cultural Asset, this temple was founded by Saint Shinran, the father of Pure Land Shinshu Buddhism. Renovation was completed in 2004, and the skull of Saint Shinran is on display at the temple.


Uesugi Kenshin(上杉謙信)
A warlord during the Warring State Period. He is prominent figure in the Japan’s national history, known not only for his prominence on the battlefield, but also his strong sense of duty. In his later years Kenshin became a Buddhist monk.

Gangidor(雁木通り)
Originally constructed long ago to shelter sidewalks from large snowfalls, these paths serve the same purpose even today. The covering on Gangidouri is the longest of its kind in Japan.
 
Takada Castle(高田城三重櫓)
Built by the sixth son of Tokugawa Ieyasu, in 1610. In 1993, the castle was restored to its historically accurate original state.
